about
Urban life is something that has always fascinated me. In Vibes in the city, I wanted to find a way to examine how the dynamic life of the urban area affect our thoughts, relationships, our everyday life and more importantly how they affect the human condition. I wanted to see how I could portray the” beat of the city” visually.
To answer this question, I came up with a new process and designed a special tool that I call a noise camera. I connected a microphone to an amplifier, the amplifier to the speaker membrane and the membrane to the camera. This enables the live sound to resonate directly with the camera, making an imprint on the image. The result revealed the presence of noise and sound in all circumstances. I do believe that noise is in connection with our thoughts and perception. Sometimes we are simply not able to recognize that we live in noise simply because we learned to live with it. Vibes in the city sets out to show this. While the project is more detailed and communicative in its video installation, this phenomenon is also highlighted on the blurred pictures, as something always vibrates, and that this vibration is perceived differently for each person of each place.
